Mumbai, India. As the lockdown in India is now extended for 2 more weeks, our OTT consumption will definitely increase now. Let us discuss which is the best OTT platform for us Indians, Netflix or Amazon Prime Video?
NETFLIX OR AMAZON PRIME VIDEO
The worldwide reach of Netflix can be superior than Amazon Prime but there are some sections where Prime takes the lead. Here I am only going to discuss with respect to an Indian user, what’s best for him/her?
In both iOS and Android devices, Netflix was downloaded more than Prime Video but the ranking of Prime Video is above of Netflix in both the OS. Amazon Prime Video has more reviews, more interacting customer service etc. But these things doesn’t make an OTT platform better. The content that it provide is the ultimate thing, which decides whether it’s worth it or not?
COST OF CONTENT
Netflix is on a rampage right now. Amid the Coronovirus lockdown, Netflix is throwing out several web shows and films for their users like the world is going to end soon. Every single day, there will be a motion poster, teaser or trailer out on their YouTube channels. While Amazon Prime Video is taking it slow and steady. It is also dropping several Amazon originals and films but in an understanding number in a week, that is a good thing.
For Indians, to decide which OTT platform is better is quite difficult. Where on one side they are getting worldwide various content on Netflix while on the other they are getting more Indian centric shows & films. Amazon has invested in India very much in the past years and that investment has profited than quite well.
On Prime Video we get to watch some of the best Indian shows ever created in the world like The Family Man, Mirzapur, Paatal Lok, Made in Heaven, Inside Edge, Comicstaan, Breathe, Laakhon Mein Ek and many more. While on Netflix instead of Sacred Games and Bard of Blood, no other show or film made that much talking. Project after project made for Netflix India went crushing down. The latest Netflix original film, Mrs. Serial Killer is one such example which tells you the condition of the platform for Indian audience. What it got was only bad reviews.
By paying ₹199/Month, you might not get good quality Indian shows on Netflix currently but you will can watch world class shows Money Heist, Stranger Things, Dark and many more. Netflix also tries to purchase the digital rights of new films as soon as they got released, that’s s good thing about them. Netflix also has the world’s best DVD library where you can rent or buy films. While on Amazon Prime, you only need to pay ₹129/Month and you will get access to Prime Video, Amazon Music, Amazon Shopping and more.
The choice between Netflix and Amazon Prime Video will vary from person to person. Amazon Prime has acquired rights of many new Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi and Malayalam films for 2020. Someone who doesn’t care much about Indian shows and films will definitely enjoy Netflix but someone who want their local language shows at their finger tips, will go towards Amazon Prime Video.
