The Australian crowd is now really getting into the nerves. Living in the 21st century, when there are big talks about modernization, equality and rights, the Indian players are being subjected to racial abuse at SCG. Netizens are now calling out Cricket Australia and ICC to take a strong stance related to this matter.
When it all started ?
Things took a drastic turn, after the Indian Team Management lodged a complaint on Day 3 of the third test, after Indian Fast Bowlers Jasprit Bumrah & Mohammad Siraj were racially abused by the crowd. Captain Ajinkya Rahane and Indian management were seen having a chat with the grounds official and the umpires.
But sadly, the crowd didn’t took any lesson. In the Day 4, the same incident was again repeated. Few individuals were spotted hooting and racially abusing the Indian players. Cricket Australia also issued an apology statement, “Cricket Australia condemns in the strongest terms possible all discriminatory behaviour,” said Sean Carroll, Cricket Australia’s Head of Integrity and Security. “If you engage in racist abuse, you are not welcome in Australian cricket.
“CA is awaiting the outcome of the International Cricket Council’s investigation into the matter reported at the SCG on Saturday. Once those responsible are identified, CA will take the strongest measures possible under our Anti-Harassment Code, including lengthy bans, further sanctions and referral to NSW Police.
“As series hosts, we unreservedly apologise to our friends in the Indian cricket team and assure them we will prosecute the matter to its fullest extent.”
This is bad representation of the country globally. People have turned furious across all social media platforms. Australia and their people are getting a bad name because of few individuals. Netizens are also remembering the incident, how Indian Captain Virat Kohli stopped the crowd when they were hooting to Steve Smith.
While Indian Greats like Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and many have raised their voice.
Virender Sehwag tweeted, “Tum karo toh Sarcasm , aur koi Kare toh Racism .
Very unfortunate with what some of the Australian crowd has been doing at the SCG and spoiling the vibes of a good test series.”
