The fifth Kalvari class Submarine ‘Vagir’ under Project P-75 launched today by MoS Defence Shripad Naik in Arabian Sea at Mazagaon Dock, Mumbai through video conferencing.
The Scorpene-class submarine Vagir is the 5th out of 6 underwater warships being built in Mazagaon Dock Limited (MDL ) for Indian Navy in collaboration with Naval Group of France.

Before Vagir, Mazagaon Dock Limited already launched INS Kalvari in INS Khanderi in 2017, INS Karanj in 2018 and INS Vela in 2019.
Out of these 5 Submarines INS Kalvari in 2017 and INS Khanderi in 2019 already Commissioned into the service of Indian Navy.
INS Karanj and INS Vela is expected to Commissioned in to the service of Indian Navy in December 2020 and in December 2021 respectively.
The hull fabrication of all six submarines is completed and the last submarine of Kalvari class Submarine ‘Vagsheer’ is expected to launch by 2022.
If everything goes by plan all the 6 underwater warships will be Commissioned in Indian Navy by the end 2024, as trials of these submarines usually last around 1.5-2 years.
Indian Navy have currently a fleet of 16 submarines and once all the warships under project-75 inducted in to the service, It will to a fleet of 20 submarines.
