Anubhav Sinha’s Thappad nominated for Best Film in 14th Asian Film Awards

The 2020 Hindi language film Thappad, directed by Anubhav Sinha has been nominated for Best Film in the 14th Asian Film Awards. Thappad is the only Indian movie this year in the Best Film category. Bong Joon-Ho’s Oscar winning film Parasite is also in this list.

Thappad is an Indian drama, which is among those lucky ones who got a worldwide theatrical release this year before the pandemic. It performed just fine on the box office because it released in limited screens and had to clash with a big Bollywood movies like Baaghi 3 in theatres next week.

However the movie received a good number of positive reviews from the critics as well as the audience. Taapsee Pannu who is leading the charge in this film has portrayed her character brilliantly and had received praise for it. Anubhav Sinha was also applauded for bringing this kind of story to light.


To be nominated among an Oscar winning movie like Parasite is already a huge achievement for the movie Thappad. Parasite by Bong Joon-Ho is a class apart film. This movie has set such high standards on the world map that anything standing next to it seems small.
