The 29 year old T Natarajan has been added to the Test Squad after India’s Premium Fast Bowler Umesh Yadav sustained an injury in the 2nd Boxing Day Test Match. Natarajan made his ODI and T20 debut against Australia, this December. The young left hand fastbowler has impressed the likes of Glenn McGrath and many legends with his bowling and variations.
While Natarajan has replaced Umesh, the young Mumbai fast bowler Shardul Thakur has been also included in the Test Squad in place of Mohammad Shami. Both Shami and Yadav will be recovering from their injuries at NCA (National Cricket Academy) Bengaluru.
India convincingly won the 2nd Test against Australia. Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy and the mighty Indian bowling line up completely outclassed the opposition. However Yadav’s injury has surely raised some concerns for the team management and the Captain. While Jasprit Bumrah is now the only senior fast bowler in the team, Siraj has proved his worth in the previous game.
With Bumrah, Siraj, Ashwin, it would be interesting to see with whom the captain and the management picks as the fourth bowling option, Shardul Thakur or T Natarajan ?
Shardul Thakur has been a consistent performer in first class cricket. In 62 matches, the right arm medium fast bowler has picked 206 wickets with an Economy rate of 3.66 and average of 28.55. While Natarajan has played 20 matches and picked 64 wickets.
