After Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina also put blame on Indian selectors for not handling the senior players well. Suresh Raina who made is debut in 2005 has been a part of 2011 World Cup and is an extremely important man of IPL team Chennai Super Kings.
Earlier Yuvraj Singh blamed the selectors and the management for not having a proper communication with him. Although Yuvraj made a comeback and was on the process of improving his fitness, but the selectors didn’t speak whether he was in their scheme of things.
In an exclusive interview with Aaj tak Senior Executive Editor Vikrant Gupta, the Indian all rounder said, despite qualifying YO-YO test and performing good he was not selected. He said, “I think selectors should have taken more responsibility towards the senior players. No matter how big a player you are at the end of the day you always play for the team, you perform, you go home and if you don’t get to play the next morning, then you have to know the reason why I am not getting batting on the net. Tell me if I have any deficiency then I will work hard. Someone will have to tell where to work hard. If he does not know, then there will be a doubt in his mind somewhere. When the cause is not known, how he will improve,”
Suresh Raina also talked about how a young talent like Rishabh Pant should be handled carefully by the team management and the selectors. A young talent needs the backing so a single statement can make or break him. A player of such caliber, lacking self confidence and self belief, is disheartening to see.
Suresh Raina who is considered one of the closest of former Indian Captain MS Dhoni, also talked about him and how he has been hitting the ball cleanly into the stands during the net session of Chennai Super Kings. He said, “He was batting really well. Cricket is still left in him. He has looked innovative. We played practice games and those sixes are as big as they were. Three hours of batting in the evening, that too, in Chennai heat is not easy and we did that (during the camp). If you ask me, Mahi bhai is batting brilliantly,”.
When asked about Dhoni’s retirement plans he said, it’s his own call and he knows the best but according to him he has much more cricket left in him. Suresh Raina was recently seen during net session, but due to coronavirus pandemic the IPL has been postponed and Raina will be again seen back in cricket field, once the IPL restarts.
