Contrary to all the speculations surrounding both the films, Reliance Entertainment has clarified that the makers are optimistic and the theatrical exhibition situation will surely improve by the time of release of the films.
There were buzz about Sooryavanshi starring Akshay Kumar and 83 starring Ranveer Singh will head for an OTT release for the betterment of the film. When the theatres are closed and in the near future there are very less hope about the reopening, makers are succumbing to the pressure and releasing the movies digitally.

Since past few months, Bollywood biggies like Laxmi Bomb, Bhuj:The Pride Of India, Sadak 2 and many more movies announced their release on the OTT platforms, while movies like Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, Gulabo Sitabo have already been released.
This is a clear indication that producers are not able to hold the film anymore. Both Sooryavanshi and 83 are big movies and are meant for theatrical experience. Makers have high expectations from them. Will OTT platforms be able to do full justice to big budget films like Sooryavanshi and 83 is the biggest question here ?
Akshay Kumar’s much awaited Sooryavanshi directed by Rohit Shetty and Produced by Dharma Production, Reliance Entertainment, Rohit Shetty Picturez and Cape of Good Films was originally scheduled to release on 24th March,2020 however the Covid-19 pandemic forced the makers to postpone the film indefinitely. The movie also stars Katrina Kaif in Lead. Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh will be seen playing cameos in the film.
While Ranveer Singh’s 83, where the actor will be seen essaying the role of The Great Kapil Dev has now been scheduled for a Christmas release. The movie also stars Deepika Padukone, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Salim, Harrdy Sandhu, Ammy Vrik, Jiliva. The movie was earlier scheduled to release on 10th April, 2020.
Reliance Entertainment CEO, Shibashish Sarkar said to Bollywood Hungama, “We are 100% inclined to take theatrical route. However, at the same time, we don’t want to delay the release further than practically possible. That means we will not like to push release dates beyond Diwali / Christmas. So the first option is to go theatrical if cinemas open up and audiences are back.”
If things don’t get back to normal before the release of the films, the makers will then definitely look for an OTT release.
