New Zealand is all set to lift all its containment measures except for border curbs as the country has successfully eliminated the transmission of Novel Coronavirus, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced.
The country has reported last Coronavirus case on 19 May and the last known infected person in country is successfully recovered.
Reuters reported that all Public and private events, the retail and hospitality industries and all public transport could resume without social distancing norms still in place across much of the world.
PM Jacinda Ardern said, “While we’re in a safer, stronger position there’s still no easy path back to pre-COVID life, but the determination and focus we have had on our health response will now be vested in our economic rebuild,”
“While the job is not done, there is no denying this is a milestone. So can I finish with a very simple ‘Thank you, New Zealand.'”
As of now the South Pacific Nation has reported only 1,154 Coronavirus cases out of which 1,482 patients has successfully recovered.
New Zealand became the first South Pacific Nation who successfully defeated Coronavirus.
“We are confident we have eliminated transmission of the virus in New Zealand for now, but elimination is not a point in time, it is a sustained effort,” Jacinda Ardern added.
