Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have faced each other in 28 matches, with Mumbai winning 17 matches and Chennai 11. CSK is one of the best IPL teams, but Mumbai Indians always comes strong and has an upper hand against CSK. Till then Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings faced each other 3 times in the IPL finals. In 2010 CSK beat MI to seal the IPL trophy and in 2013 and 2015 MI beat CSK to lift the IPL trophy.

Chennai Super Kings played thoroughly good in the entire tournament. They registered 9 wins in 14 matches and finished in top 2 in the league stage in IPL 2019. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings again faced each other in Qualifier 1, where MI defeated Chennai Super Kings by 6 wickets. Mumbai directly qualified to the finals, and Chennai beat Delhi Capitals in the second qualifier to meet Mumbai in Hyderabad.

And the night of the finals, with full packed stadium. The two of the most successful franchises were facing each other for the last time. The Rajeev Gandhi International Stadium were roaring with crowd support towards both the teams. Psychologically Mumbai Indians had an upper hand, as they defeated Chennai Super Kings three times in the tournament.

The two captains came out for the toss. MI won the toss and elected to bat first in a pressure game. But everything turned other way round. Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar early breakthroughs helped CSK in containing the runs. Deepak Chahar took Rohit Sharma’s crucial wicket in the cruch moment. But Mumbai Indians star cricketer Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya helped the team to reach a moderate total of 149.

This total seemed very much achievable seeing the strong batting lineup of Chennai Super Kings. But when you have likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga no target is easily chaseable. Krunal Pandya broke the much needed opening partnership between Shane Watson and Faf Du Plesis in the fourth over. After that the batting lineup of CSK completely collapsed. The final blow was when MS Dhoni got run-out. The entire stadium went silent. But when we talk about CSK Vs MI it’s not over without drama. Shane Watson was fighting from one end and that big over from Krunal Pandya completely changed the scenario of the game.

Just when the fans thought Chennai Super Kings caught up Shane Watson gets run out at 80. But the efforts from Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadega helped Chennai to take the game deep, but a lethal delivery from Jasprit Bumrah send back Dwayne Bravo back to the pavilion. Two runs were needed from the last ball. Shardul Thakur on strike and Mumbai Indians most experienced bowler Lasith Malinga was bowling the last over. Malinga had a bad day, but what mattered is the last bowl. And Lasith Malinga hits an in swinging Yorker which hits Thakurs pad, and umpire gives it out. This match was one hell of a roller coaster ride with so many ups and downs.

Mumbai Indians lifted the IPL trophy 4th time and became the most successful IPL franchise. The fans are hoping they could the same excitement and energy on the field from their favourite cricketers in IPL 2020.
