Today its the match of the tournament, it’s Chennai Super Kings VS Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Run Machine Virat Kohli will take on the Greatest Finisher MS Dhoni. While RCB is coming after a defeat against young firing Delhi Capitals, CSK’s bad form continues in the tournament after the defeat against KKR in Abu Dhabi. Critiques and experts have been raising serious questions on CSK’s captain and Team Management.
ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE
Currently, RCB seems a quite balanced team as compared to CSK. With young Devdutt Padikkal consistent performance at the top with the likes of Virat Kohli, Aaron Finch, AB de Villiers has potential to score big and put pressure on the opponent. What RCB lacked in in these years were overdependence on Kohli and ABD, but now the young guns have started proving themselves. However still there are some concern with the death bowling. Navdeep Saini and Yuzvendra Chahal will be the key for RCB, Saini’s consistent performance in the death overs and Yuzi’s ability to take wickets in the middle overs will help the team to reach the playoffs.
CHENNAI SUPER KINGS
But when we look at the other team it seems new problems rise with each passing game. MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings are in real trouble now, CSK currently stands at number 6 in the points table with just 2 wins in 6 matches. The franchise is known for excelling in the first stage of tournament and acquiring the top spot, but it’s 2020 and there’s a complete turnaround.
Individual players can make you win matches but not the tournament, this is what CSK needs to learn. The franchise banks on its experience players, but now cricket has gone ahead and a team needs fearless fresh blood. One needs to understand when each player contributes to the team then it’s a real victory. After the victory against KXIP people thought the lion has roared again, Shane Watson and Faf Du Plesis alone helped CSK crossed the finish line by chasing 178 runs at a loss of 0 wickets.
But sadly it’s not fairytale everyday. In the next game against KKR, CSK’s batting got heavily exposed. After the departure of Faf and Watson, the team seemed in no mood of winning the match. But what came as shock was MS Dhoni’s wicket. The captain is known for taking the game deep but in the match against KKR he tried pick Varun Chakraborty for big runs in just 16th over of the match and threw his wicket. This clearly reflects the pressure on him because of the criticism he faced during the first two matches regarding lack of intent. People also raised questions on Kedar Jadhav slow pace innings and his inclusion in playing 11.
But there is no writing off CSK. Everytime Mahendra Singh Dhoni is pushed to the wall he comes back more strong. Time and again the captain has proved why he is one of the greatest, its just that he has fixed few things and the team will be back on track. Each time the senior players raises up their sleeves and take the team to finishing line, but this time the players need to play like a team.
The biggest positive for CSK is the comeback of Shane Watson. In 2 consecutive matches the Australian all rounder played crucial knocks. But the most important thing is support from the middle order. The likes of Ambati Rayadu, MS Dhoni, Sam Curran, R. Jadega can snatch away the match from the opponent at any given point of time.
However it would be interesting to see whether the captain makes any changes on the playing 11 or sticks to the same team. Flemming in his recent press conference hinted about proper utilisation of DJ Bravo and Ravindra Jadega, so can it be the captain going with an extra bowler to contain the flow of runs by dropping Kedar Jadhav.
When the fierce rival will meet at Dubai again, people will witness huge sixes and thorough entertainment. No matter who is on the winning side, the victory will be of game of cricket.
