MI Vs DC
After 46 days and 56 matches we are finally heading towards the first qualifier. Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians will take on Young Shreyas Iyer’s Delhi Capitals in Dubai today. While from here on the winning team will seize their spot for the final of IPL 2020, the loosing team will get another chance.
It’s the battle of pride, it’s the battle of nerves, it’s the battle between an experienced and consistent side and a young energetic force. Both the teams will try to bring out their 110% in today’s match and try to remain in a comfortable position.
On one hand Delhi Capitals have found their lost momentum. After a string of defeats, Shreyas Iyer and his boys made their strong comeback in the match against RCB and attained the second position in the points table. On the other, Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians tasted a humiliating defeat against SRH, but that won’t worry MI a lot.
On paper, MI looks a more balanced and intimidating side. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Trend Bolt, Rahul Chahar, James Pattinson makes them one of the best bowling unit in this IPL. However there are also some concerns, MI’s lower middle order disappointed the fans in the last match. The inclusion of Rohit Sharma pushed Ishaan Kishan at number 4, is number 4 a right spot for the youngster.
The Delhi bowlers needs to remember that Rohit Sharma has not joined the party yet. Rohit Sharma now needs to prove a point to the selectors and the people questioning his fitness. The Bowlers will be just hoping that a storm named Rohit Sharma doesn’t arrive infront of them.
On Delhi Capitals part, the day the team plays as an unit there is no stopping. With a brain of legend like Ricky Pointing and enthusiasm and energy of youngsters, on their day the team can defeat any opponent. However this time Shreyas Iyer is in a comfortable position, it’s just he and his boys need to have self belief and go all out.
However with DC there are some concerns which the Team Management needs to address soon. Playing Prithvi Shaw and A. Rahane together sometimes can backfire. In T20 cricket Rahane is best when chasing 160-170, he can pace the innings and play the role of anchor, but when DC will be chasing 180-190 it will be trickier situation.
Using Rahane at number 3 means Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Stoinis will be arriving at number 4, 5, 6. These three batsmen can snatch away the victory from the opponent’s mouth at any point of time, given they get time to settle in the middle. It becomes difficult for a batsman to hit sixes from the first ball itself. In T20 cricket specially, the game belongs to Top 3.
DC are dependent on Kagiso Rabada and Nortje. These two bowlers need to fire at the beginning, then only Delhi bowlers create chances on the middle overs. A bad for any one of them results to Delhi Capitals defeat.
It’s a big game today, and big players will surely take the responsibility. After Dhawan’s two consecutive centuries it was looking as if he was indispensable, but again Dhawan needs to perform consistently if he wants his team to win. After getting good start, the Indian opener is playing a loose short which is causing trouble to the team.
Bumrah Vs Rabada, Shikhar Vs Rohit, Nortje Vs Bolt, Iyer Vs Suryakumar. Whom are you rooting for in today’s match ?
