Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab and his entire government resigns over the Beirut explosion.
After the explosion a major anti government demonstration stormed out in the city which forced Prime Minister Diab to resign.
In a televised speech Diab said that the ‘endemic corruption’ caused the explosion in the Beirut.
He said that he is taking “a step back” so he can stand with the people “and fight the battle for change alongside them.”
Diab said: “I declare today the resignation of this government. May God protect Lebanon,”
“They (corrupt politicians) should have been ashamed of themselves because their corruption is what has led to this disaster that had been hidden for seven years,” he added.
“Today we follow the will of the people in their demand to hold accountable those responsible for the disaster that has been in hiding for seven years, and their desire for real change,” he said. “In the face of this reality … I am announcing today the resignation of this government.”
The massive blast on August 4, led to killing of at least 160 and injuring over 3000. Massive protests had erupted on the streets of Beirut over last few days.
