A big shock for Mumbai Indians and IPL fans. Sri Lankan Great and Mumbai Indians pacer Lasith Malinga is set to miss the 13th edition of the IPL.
Lasith Malinga is one of the key players and played a big role behind the success of the team. The fast bowler helps the team in getting early breakthroughs as well as contain the flow of runs in the death overs.
However Mumbai Indians have announced Australian pacer James Pattinson as replacement for Malinga. But the question rises will he able to fill Lasith Malinga’s shoes ?
Mumbai Indians said in a press release, “Lasith Malinga has requested unavailability for the season for personal reasons and to be with family back home in Sri Lanka. James Pattinson will join MI Family currently based in Abu Dhabi this weekend,” Mumbai Indians said in a press release.
Lasith Malinga played a big part behind Mumbai winning the IPL 2019. His last over against Chennai Super Kings proved why he is considered a legend of this game.
This is surely a big loss for the team as well as IPL. When big names like Lasith Malinga and Suresh Raina make themselves unavailable the league will surely suffer a big loss, not only in terms of money but also good cricket.
During these unprecedented times, there is no doubt that there must be a sense of fear within players. Moreover the news about CSK members being tested positive, added to it.
Although Mumbai Indians has a good bowling lineup, the loss of Malinga will be felt. The 13th edition of the IPL is set to begin from 19th September, but till now schedule has not been announced. According to reports, BCCI and IPL Governing Council is looking at different scenarios and circumstances that can arise and will only announce the schedule once everything gets clear.
