Indian Railways now planning to build a semi high speed rail corridor in Kerala. This Semi high speed rail corridor will be built in between Thiruvananthapuram, capital city of kerla to Kasargode. This total distance between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasargode is about 532 KM.
After the completion of this project, trains can cruise with a speed of 200 km/hr in this section. The entire project will be prepared by K-Rail (Kerala Rail Development Corporation Limited), a joint Venture Company between Ministry Of Railways and Government of Kerala.
The 532 semi high speed rail corridor will eases the transportation between south and north end of state and will reduce the travel time to less than 4 hours, which presently take 10-12 hrs.
The purpose of the project is to reduce high rail traffic in kerala and to provide a alternative SHSR corridor to accelerate the speed of long duration trains which will help in reducing time.
The total estimated cost of this project is ₹ 66,079 crore which will include additional 2 tracks in the section. This project will make under the title is Silver Line. Trains will pass through 14 district and 10 intermediate station in between Thiruvananthapuram–Kasargode.
From last few years Indian Railways constantly working on to ramp up the speed of the trains, and to provide better rail experience to its consumer. Tejas, Gatimaan, Humsafar express is the high speed train and can be easily cruise at 200 KM/hr, if tracks support.
Converting ICF to LHB rakes will help in increasing average speed of Indian railway and these coaches are much safer than ICF ones. Integration of Train 18(self propelled trains), popularly know as Vande Bharat Express show’s Indian Railways is fully committed towards speed and safety and to provide great experience to it’s consumer.
Getting nearly full occupancy in Vande Bharat Express in his daily operations, makes Railway more confident about their experiments. Now Railway Planning to make 90 rakes of Train 18 in coming years. Now Railway also trying to develop Train 20 in 2020 which will be a Sleeper variant of Train 18 aims to replace Rajdhani Express.
