Top seed K.Pliskova faced an upset by World no.50 Caroline Gracia, Djokovic moves into 3rd round

Top-seeded Karolina Pliskova has been crashed out in the 2nd round of the US Open. France Carolina Gracia handed an upset to the World.no 3 in straight sets. While World.no 1 Novak Djokovic beat Kyle Edmund to book his place in the 3rd round.

World no.3 from the Czech Republic lost to World no.50 France’s Caroline Gracia by 6-1, 7-6(2).

The 28-year old never found comfortable and was struggling being dominated early in the match with Gracia taking a 5-0 lead to take the opening set 6-1.

The runner-up of the 2016 US Open did comeback in the 2nd set and also had the chance to take it but didn’t able to find a breakpoint. Gracia was trailing 5-4 to Pliskova when she forced the set into the tie break

In the tie-break, Gracia ran into a 6-2 lead when an unforced error from Pliskova handed her a win.

Caroline Gracia will now clash with 28th seed American Jennifer Brady.

In the men’s singles, World.no.1 and top seed Novak Djokovic improved his record into 2020 by taking his tally to 25-0.

He defeated Britain’s Kyle Edmund in four sets. The Western & Southern Open champion lost the opening set in the tie break but came back to win 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 at the Arthur Ashe stadium.
