James Cameron’s much awaited sequel Avatar 2 has now been further delayed to 2022. The movie was earlier scheduled to release in 2021 but will now be releasing in 2022.
Avatar 2 is a sequel of James Cameron’s masterpiece ‘Avatar’ which released back in 2009. Just when the makers tried to gift the ‘Avatar franchise’ fans with the sequel, Coronavirus pandemic shattered all their dreams. Not only the pandemic will be affecting the release of Avatar 2 but also all the upcoming sequels. As per Disney, the movie sequels are scheduled to release on every 2 years which means Avatar 5 will now be releasing in 2028 instead of 2027.
The director and creator of Avatar James Cameron released a statement mentioning that the film schedule of the film has begun in New Zealand, but the ongoing pandemic is affecting the Virtual Production work in Los Angeles. Cameron asked the franchise fan to support the makers in these tough times as they are putting their 110% behind the film.

The delaying of the franchise came as a no surprise. The movie has been delayed multiple times. The original release of Avatar 2 was way back in 2014, however the Director’s search for perfection resulted in delaying of the film.
In 2016, the Director announced that the sequels are being filmed simultaneously and is set to release in 2018, 2020, 2022, 2023. After Disney acquired 20th century fox the release dates were again delayed to 2021, 2023, 2025 and 2027. And now after the pandemic the latest dates stand 2022, 2024, 2026 and 2028.
The fans will again have to hold their heavy heart untill James Cameron announces something new regarding the film.
