IPL 13 Matches Suspended Till April 15

IPL 2021

The 13th edition of IPL which was to begin from 29 th March is now been postponed till 15th April seeing the rise in Coronavirus cases across the country. The first match of the tournament was to take place in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.

In an official statement BCCI (The Board Of Control For Cricket In India) stated, “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend IPL 2020 till 15th April 2020, as a precautionary measure against the ongoing Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) situation. The BCCI is concerned and sensitive about all its stakeholders, and public health in general, and it is taking all necessary steps to ensure that, all people related to IPL including fans have a safe cricketing experience. The BCCI will work closely with the Government of India along with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and all other relevant Central and State Government departments in this regard.”

A meeting will going to be held on Saturday between IPL governing council, high stake holders of the tournament, all the eight franchises and members of the board. Earlier Kiren Rijju, the Union Sports Minister said, “We are advising to the sporting bodies who are organising tournaments to ensure that the guidelines issued by the health ministry are maintained. They should ensure that mass gathering is avoided,”

Assumptions are being made, looking at the Health Advisory notice of avoiding Mass Gathering, the matches will be played in empty stadiums which means there will be no spectators in the stand.

The number of venues might decrease seeing the problem that may arise because of traveling. If also it happens every franchise needs to have their own chatter for traveling. One of the biggest reason for postponing the date is cancellation of foreign visas by Indian Government. Although the overseas player will fall under business visas but it will take time and without overseas players there is no IPL
