Indian Railways to run “Shramik Special” Train to move Stranded Migrants

Indian Railways to start Shramik Special trainAs per the guideline issued by Ministry of Home Affairs, Railways decided to run “Shramik Special” trains from “Labour Day” today, to move migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places due to lock down.

The first special train will run on Friday to ferry stranded migrants from Telangana to Jharkhand.

According to the railway officials, it is a non-stop train that has been operated as a “one-off” service on Friday morning. The train left the Lingampalli station at 5 AM. It will reach Hatia in Jharkhand around 11 PM.

Speaking to IANS, Railway Protection Force Director General Arun Kumar said the train has 24 coaches and in every coach 54 people are there. He said that migrants have been provided food, water by railways. RPF personnel deployed on board will maintain social distancing norms.

Train will run from point to point on the request of both the concerned State Governments as per the standard protocols for sending and receiving such stranded persons. The Railways and State Governments will appoint senior officials as Nodal Officers for coordination and smooth operation of these “Shramik Specials”.

The passengers have to be screened by the sending States and only those who find fit will allow to travel. Railway and sending states will send these passengers in batches.

States will accommodate the passengers in the train to the designated Railway Station in sanitized buses following every social distancing norms and other precautions.

It will be mandatory for every passenger to wear face cover. Meals and drinking water would be provided to the passengers by the sending states at the originating station.

Railway will maintain social distancing among the passengers during the journey and food & water will provided by Railways in the journey.

On arrival at the destination, passengers will be received by the State Government, who would make all arrangements for their screening, quarantine if necessary and further travel from the Railway Station.
