Sikorsky is a subsidiary company of Lockheed Martin.
In May 2020, we have already reported based on Livefist input, that Sikorsky fast track the delivery of Romeo helicopters to India.
Earlier the delivery of the Romeo helicopters was scheduled for the next year but now Sikorsky has received permission to divert three new (undelivered) Romeos helicopters originally for US Navy, to the Indian Navy.
The all three helicopters are fully built and marked for delivery to US Navy but now all the three helicopters with stipulated modification will transferred to Indian Navy from US Navy inventory.
India and US signed deal in February for the procurement of MH-60R Seahawk multi-mission helicopters for the Indian Navy under $2.12bn, 24 Seahawk helicopters will be purchased to replace Sea King helicopters.
The Sikorsky MH-60 Romeo is a multi-mission maritime helicopter and capable of carry out missions like, anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASUW), naval special warfare (NSW) insertion, search and rescue (SAR), combat search and rescue (CSAR), vertical replenishment (VERTREP), and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC).
