India Partially lifts ban on Hydroxychloroquine after Trump Statement

Hydroxychloroquine

In view of the humanitarian aspects of Covid-19, India decides that it would licence paracetamol & hydroxychloroquine in appropriate quantities to all neighbouring countries. On Sunday, US President Donald Trump had a telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where he ask PM Modi to export hydroxychloroquine drugs to America.

But soon India prohibits the export of hydroxychloroquine without any exception. This gesture by India upset the mood of Donald Trump.

“I spoke to him (PM Modi), Sunday morning & I said we appreciate it that you are allowing our supply (of Hydroxychloroquine) to come out, if he doesn’t allow it to come out, that would be okay, but of course, there may be retaliation, why wouldn’t there be?” US President Donald Trump said in a press conference.

Today, India partially lifts the ban on Hydrochloroquine & paracetamol with restrictions and depending on availability of stock after meeting domestic requirements. India will also supply these drugs to some nations who’ve been badly affected from Covid-19.

The government of India also lifts the restrictions on 24 active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and formulations made from them. These APIs are now allowed to be exported.

In response to queries, the official spokesperson Mr. Anurag Srivastava said,
“Given the enormity of the COVID19 pandemic, India has always maintained that the international community must display strong solidarity and cooperation. This approach also guided our evacuation of nationals of other countries.

In view of the humanitarian aspects of the pandemic, it has been decided that India would licence paracetamol and Hydroxychloroquine in appropriate quantities to all our neighbouring countries who are dependent on our capabilities. We will also be supplying these essential drugs to some nations who have been particularly badly affected by the pandemic. We would therefore discourage any speculation in this regard or any attempts to politicise the matter.”
