Ind Vs Eng 1st test results

The visitors England have defeated Virat Kohli’s Team India by 227 runs in the first Test in Chennai. While England have now moved on to the top of the ICC World Test Championship Points table, Team India have slipped down to number 4.

England opener D.Sibley and all rounder Ben Stokes played crucial knocks that put England in a strong position.

There are some questions on India’s team selection. Picking Shahbaaz Nadeem over Kuldeep Yadav will always be debatable. In the first innings Nadeem conceded 167 runs in 44 overs and picked 2 wickets in the first innings. While Bumrah & Ashwin picked 3 each. Ishant Sharma, returning after his injury conceded 52 runs in his 27 overs and picked 2 wickets.

When India came into bat, James Anderson and Jofra Archer 2 early wickets completely pushed India to backfoot. While Captain Kohli tried to stick to the middle, but Dom Bess sent him back to the dressing room. Cheteshwar Pujara’s 73 runs raised some hope for India. But unlucky Pujara couldn’t survive in the middle for too long. After departure of Pujara, Rishabh Pant counter attack and Washington Sunder’s innings helped India to reach to a fighting score of 337 runs.

Chasing 419 is quite a tough task in the last day of the test that too in the subcontinent. Off spinner Jack Leech picked two early wickets of Rohit Sharma and Pujara, and India were already down.

While young Shubhman Gill tried, but couldn’t convert his 50 runs into a big score. James Anderson fierce spell completely outclassed Indian middle order. The sudden collapse, completely put India out of the game. Captain Virat Kohli tried to save the match, but was unable to find a way out infront of the English force.

The second test between India and England will be played from 13 Feb.
