Sanjay Manjrekar has picked his playing 11 ahead of the first ODI between India and Australia scheduled to take place at the Sydney Cricket ground tomorrow. But there is no Hardik Pandya in Manjrejkar’s playing 11.

India’s tour of Australia begins with the three-match ODI series and everyone is picking their dream 11 team and giving their predictions. Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar who has been in the headlines for quite some time now for some of his expert opinion about the game returns to the commentary panel with this series. He has also picked his playing 11 for the game which doesn’t feature all-rounder Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja.

He opines that Hardik Pandya is not a pure batsman in 50 over Cricket if he is not bowling. He has picked his 11 on the principle of playing specialists.

He has picked Shikhar Dhawan and Mayank Aggarwal as his two openers. Virat, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul as his 3rd, 4th and 5th number batsman. He has picked Manish Pandey as his 6th batsman based on playing pure batsman. Shami, Kuldeep, Chahal, Bumrah and Saini/Shardul form his rest of the 11.

“Because I have a principle about the selection that has come about from years of study and personal experience. Pick specialists,” said Manjrekar when one Twitter user asked why he always underestimates Jadeja.

When one user pointed Hardik’s innings in the Champions Trophy final against Pakistan, Manjrekar was quick to revert that Hardik used to bowl too then. Hence he uses to be fruitful in ODIs. He would pick him in T20i but not in ODIs and tests.

He later clarifies that he is not sure if Hardik Pandya is a pure batsman in ODI as he has not yet proved himself and is untested Even if he bowls 5 good overs, he would pick him. He pointed out Hardik Pandya’s averages 29 whereas Manish Pandey averages 35 with a strike rate of both has not much difference. Hence he would pick Manish Pandey as a pure batsman in his team.
