Australia have defeated India by 66 runs in the first ODI at SCG (Sydney Cricket Ground). While India seemed completely out of place, the mighty Australians dominated today’s game. Now after this game there are lot of questions for the Team Management and the captain.
After 8 long months the Indian fans were waiting to see their favourite cricketers in the blue jersey. A lot of hype and buzz was created before today’s match as it was being considered as the toughest and real return of International cricket. Both the top side would be taking on each other, but sadly it turned out to be a nightmare for Indians.
The storm of Aaron Finch and David Warner completely outclassed Indian bowling line up. The attacking mode which the Aaron Finch adopted on a spungy pitch came as a surprise for Indian bowlers. At the big occasion, Aaron rose up and proved, he’s the guy. Aaron Finch’s 114 runs in 124 balls gave a solid foundation to Australia and then the fans witnessed the class of Steve Smith.
Steve played shots at different corners of the ground. The ease and the confidence with which he was batting in the middle is a sign of threat for India. His knock of 105 runs in 66 balls with 11 4’s and 4 6’s accomplished with Maxwell’s quick 45 runs helped Australia reached to a huge score of 374 runs.
The Indian bowling line up got exposed today. It seemed the bowlers were bowling to save the runs rather than trying to pick wickets. The use of only 5 bowlers in today’s match has raised a lot of questions. Hardik Pandya has not been bowling since his return from the injury and that has surely created imbalance in the team. Except Mohammad Shami, all the bowlers went for runs.
The biggest disappointment in today’s match for India was Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah has been India’s go to bowler since many years. In crunch moments the fast bowler picks important breakthroughs. But today turned out to be bad day for Jasprit.
Young gun Navdeep Saini and leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal conceded too much runs. Navdeep gave away 83 runs in 10 overs while Yuzi went for 89 runs in his 10 overs. Nothing seemed to be turning right for the Indian side in today’s match. However now the management needs to think whether they can drop a batsman and bring another bowler. Pandya has been a great asset, but now the Captain need to think whether he needs sixth bowling option or will continue with the same playing XI.
The Indian batsman crumbled under the scoreboard pressure. Chasing 374 runs was never easy specially seeing the likes of Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood in the opposite team. India lost 4 early wickets, however the fighting knock from Hardik Pandya has been the only positive that India will take away from this match.
Hardik scored 90 runs in 76 balls while Dhawan supported Pandya and scored 74 runs. Two of the batsmen were looking to turn the fate but just then Zampa crushed all the hopes. Now the second match between both the teams will be played on Nov 29 at Sydney. It will be interesting to see whether Virat Kohli’s men are able to make the comeback or Australia seizes the ODI series.
