India’s limited over member and Delhi Capitals’ skipper Shreyas Iyer could be asked to stay back in Australia for the four-match test series.
This development came after reports making rounds that Rohit Sharma and fast bowler Ishant Sharma are likely to miss the Australia series.
Both of them were included in the last three Tests, but both players are in rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. They are being monitored by the medical team of NCA.
According to the Mumbai Mirror report, Rohit and Ishant’s fitness state was discussed with the NCA team in a recent meeting. There is not much improvement in the fitness of both.
Team management, selectors and BCCI have been informally informed about this. It will also be a big shock as Virat Kohli returns home after the first Test under Paternity Leave.
It will be difficult to call any other player from India considering the quarantine rules in Australia so keeping in mind the availability, Iyer who is part of both ODI’s and T20I might stay back.
“There won’t be any fresh player coming in after Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma’s arrival. The selectors picked a jumbo squad for this reason. If the need arises, Shreyas could be asked to stay back,” a BCCI source was quoted as telling TOI.
