International Cricket Council on Wednesday announced that decision regarding happening of ICC T20 World Cup will be taken on next month.
Earlier decision was scheduled to be taken on May 28, but ICC postponed the date of decision making to 10th June and now again ICC has again deferred the decision to next month. ICC said it will continue to monitor the situation and continue exploring contingency plans amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
We will only get one chance to make this decision and it needs to be the right one…we will continue to consult with our Members, broadcasters, partners, governments and players and to ensure that we make a well informed decision,” ICC chief executive Manu Sawhney said in a statement after the Board meeting held via video conference.
The ongoing tustle between BCCI and ICC is not hidden from anyone. BCCI is trying it’s best to get a window if Cricket World Cup gets postponed as huge chunk of money is involved. On the other hand, other respective Boards are not happy with BCCI’s decision of organising IPL rather than supporting World Cup.
India is all set to travel Australia for 3 Test, ODI and T20 series beginning from October.
Cricket Australia has incurred a huge loss due to this ongoing pandemic, in no way they would like to miss this opportunity as playing against India can compensate their loss. The first priority of Cricket Australia currently is, the bilateral series between India & Australia rather than Cricket World Cup.
Although the country has recorded very less Coronavirus positive cases but they don’t want to take any chance. Organising Cricket World Cup is a big deal for the country as lot of traveling and other expenditures are included during this pandemic. Australia has made it clear, that it cannot organise 2020 World Cup so now the biggest question is Why is ICC postponing the decision making date ?
