Indian batsman KL Rahul today celebrates his 28th birthday. Born in 18th April 1992, KL Rahul made his test debut against Australia in 2014 and ODI Debut against Zimbabwe in 2016. Rahul is captain Virat Kohli’s favourite, Virat bestowed ample of opportunity on KL, and KL Rahul grabbed all those opportunity.
The past two years have been exceptionally well for KL Rahul in blue jersey. He has marked his presence. After Shikhar Dhawans hairline finger injury in World Cup against Australia, KL Rahul was given the opportunity to open the innings along with hitman, Rohit Sharma. KL Rahul grabbed this opportunity with his both hands. In a high pressure game against Pakistan KL Rahul played an exceptional knock and handled the pressure. Then there was no looking back.
Rahul holds the record, the only Indian to score a century in ODI debut and became the third Indian to score century in all three formats. Rahul is also the fastest to score hundred in all three formats (20 innings). In IPL Kl. Rahul holds the record of fastest half century in 14 balls.
KL Rahul was given the role of wicketkeeper because of unavailability of young talent Rishabh Pant, but Rahul made big of that opportunity. Rahul till then, was not looked as a wicketkeeper but his performance proved everyone wrong. Whether as a opener or as lower middle order batsman Rahul has made an impact in the game. KL Rahul provides the team with many roles. An opener wicketkeeper is rare to find and India has found the one.
KL Rahul will certainly be a part of world cup squad, but as a wicketkeeper or as a batsman, is something that the team management needs to solve. Shikhar Dhawan who is known as man of ICC tournaments will also give a tough competition to KL Rahul for the opening slot. With the availability of Rishabh Pant, with whom will the team management go is the biggest question. Pant has not been up to the mark in the past few series, and that raised many questions on him. The IPl was a good opportunity for Pant as well as Rahul to prove their potential and cement their permanent place in Indian team.
