Former South African Captain Graeme Smith has been appointed as the Director of Cricket by CSA( Cricket South Africa). Graeme Smith has been appointed as Director of Cricket for 2 years term. The South African Cricket Board made this decision after seeing the South African team deterioration in World Cricket.
The former South African Captain had held this post on an interim basis since December last year. CSA Acting Chief Executive Jacques Faul said”Graeme has made a huge impact with his energy, expertise, hard work ethic and characteristic determination and passion he has brought to the position during the six months he has served in an acting capacity,”
“Although there is certainly a great deal of work to be done, as reflected by the performances of our various national teams, he has certainly put our cricket on an upward trajectory that provides light at the end of the tunnel.” he added.
South Africa has never won an ICC tournament and for the past three years, their performance have immensely gone down. The past year was a nightmare for South African Cricket, as their were reports about conflict between the players and the board. CSA has been involved in many controversy, Faf Duplesis captaincy or ABD Villiars retirement. Will Graeme Smith be able to make the team come back on track.
Graeme Smith is regarded as South Africa’s one of the best captain. At the age of 22, he was given the responsibility to lead the team, and he took the South African team to a next level. So will he be able to transform this South African team is the biggest question now?
