England defeated the West Indies in the 3rd and final test match by 269 runs to lift the Wisden Trophy on Tuesday.

Stuart broad was the star of the test match as he claimed match-winning performance of 10-67 and also contributed a valuable 62 with the bat in the first innings to help England reach 369.

Chris Woakes claimed a fifer as he took 5/50 in the 2nd innings. West Indies were dismissed at 129 in 37.1 overs.

Earlier, Stuart Broad became the 7th bowler to take 500 wickets in the cricket history. After being left out in the first test, broad tool 16 wickets in the remaining two test matches.

England’s victory, in the finale of a series that marked international cricket’s return from the coronavirus lockdown, also saw Ollie Pope make 91 in their first-innings 369.

England and West Indies came into the final day with the series level at 1-1. West Indies failed to retain the Wisden Trophy which they won last year.

After the 4th day was washed out due to rain at Manchester, Old Trafford, England needed to take 8 wickets in the final day to claim the Wisden Trophy while the Windies needed to get 389 runs or draw the test match to retain the Trophy.

Putting England in to bat first, West Indies Captain Jason Holder won the toss and elected to bowl. England included Anderson and Jofra Archer who was suspended from the 2nd test for breaking the bio-secure bubble into the line up in place of Sam Curran and Zak Crawley. While the West Indies dropped Alzaari Joseph to bring in all-rounder Rakheem Cornwall.

The match started as usual with both sides bending their knees to show support for the Black Lives Matter movement. England posted a huge 369 runs in their first innings with Ollie Pope (91) and Jos Butter (69) being the lead scorer. They stitched a 140 run-stand for the 5th wicket to bail England out if trouble from 122/4 at one stage.

West Indies didn’t have the best of start with Broad and Anderson doing the early damage with Woakes and Archer chipping in which saw West Indies struggling at 110-6 but they eventually managed to avoid the follow on the back of Holder (46) & Dowrich (37) before the hosts wrapped up the visitors on 197 which helped them get a hefty lead of 172 runs. Stuart Broad was the standout bowler claiming 6-31.

England batsmen came out with Sibley (56) and Burns (90) giving a solid foundation that saw Captain Joe root smoking a quickfire 68 runs in 56 balls before England declared at 226/2 in 58 overs in the last hour of the play, making sure Windies face some overs which saw them struggling at 10/2 at the end of Day 3.

Day 4 proves to be Washout. There were early showers and stop-start play on the fifth day but that was not enough for West Indies to avoid the invincible as no batsmen stood out for them as they lost to retain the retiring Wisden Trophy. The Wisden Trophy has been officially retired now and Richards-Botham trophy will be played next time when England plays West Indies.

Well, now England will all have their eye on Pakistan as they have 3 match test series to play starting from August 5.
