CSK vs MI
In the opening encounter of the much-awaited Indian Premier league, Chennai Super Kings defeated the defending champions Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets in Abu Dhabi. Ambati Rayudu’s 71 runs knock helped CSK chase down MI 163 runs target.
MS Dhoni who was playing his first match after his retirement from International cricket in August opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Mumbai Indians got off to a flying start as they crossed 50 runs in 6 overs. Quinton de kock got them a good start as he knocked 33 runs in 20 balls with the help of 5 fours.
Saurabh Tiwary who was picked ahead of Ishan Kishan marked his arrival with a 42 run knock. The Jharkhand lad who was playing is first IPL match after a gap of 2 years played at the strike rate of 135.48 smashing 3 fours and a six.
After the dismissal of Tiwary, MI started loosing grip on the match with Hardik Pandya(14 off 10) also loosing his wicket in quick succession. Late strikes from Lungi Ngidi helped CSK restrict MI at 162/9.
CSK didn’t had a good start as they lost both their openers M.Vijay(1) and Shane Watson(4) cheaply. Faf du-Plessis(58) and Rayudu(71) ensured that CSK don’t lose any more wicket and stitched a 115 runs partnership which helped CSK to chase down a modest target of 163.
MS Dhoni who is known for his surprise decisions, once again surprised many when he sent Rravinda Jadeja and thereafter Sam Curran ahead of himself when 42 runs were needed of 4 overs and yet again he was right as Jadeja’s 10 runs off 5 balls and Sam Curran 18 off 6 balls helped CSK crossed the 162 mark.
Ambati Rayudu’s 71 run knock helped him get the player of the match award.
