DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) has today successfully flight tested the Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV) using the indigenously developed scramjet propulsion system.

DRDO with this mission, has demonstrated capabilities for highly complex technology that will serve as the building block for NextGen Hypersonic vehicles in partnership with industry, says DRDO.
Chairman DRDO congratulated all the Scientists, Researchers and other personnel related with HSTDV mission for their resolute and unwavering efforts towards strengthening Nation’s defence capabilities.

The HSTDV is an unmanned scramjet demonstration aircraft for hypersonic speed flight. It is being developed as a carrier vehicle for hypersonic and long-range cruise missiles.
It can cruise at a speed of 6 mach and move up to an altitude of 32.5 kilometres in 20 seconds, HSTDV will have multiple civilian applications including the launching of small satellites at low cost.
HSTDV took his first flight in June 12, 2019 from Abdul Kalam Island at 11:27 AM.
The cruise vehicle was mounted on an Agni-I solid rocket motor to take it to the required altitude. The test was partial success.
