DC vs KKR : Delhi Capitals tops the table after crushing KKR by 18 runs

Match 16, DC vs KKR 

It was the first doubleheader at Dream11 IPL 2020 today and RCB and Delhi Capitals emerged as the winner as they comfortably sit at 2nd and first position respectively. Delhi beat Kolkata by 18 runs at Sharjah to top the table.

An outstanding team performance helped the Delhi Capitals to topple Kolkata Knight riders in the Match 16. Shreyas Iyer 88 runs and Anrich Nortje 3-32 took better of Knight Riders.

Match Summary

Earlier, Dinesh Karthik won the toss and put Shreyas Iyer Delhi Capitals into bat. Capitals had two changes coming into this match. They brought R.Ashwin and Harshal Patel in place of Axar Patel and Ishant Sharma while KKR included Rahul Tripathi into the line up in place of Kuldeep Yadav.

Prithvi Shaw and Dhawan had a brilliant start to their innings. Dhawan departed after playing a small cameo of 26 runs which included two monstrous hits for six off Sunil Narine. Shaw made a brilliant half-century. He was caught at long-on of Nagarkoti.

Shreyas Iyer and Pant stitched a 72 runs partnership before Pant was caught at long-on trying to play a trademark Dhoni’s helicopter shot for six of the delivery of Andre Russell. Shreyas Iyer was the pick of the batsman for DC as the young skipper of Delhi smashed 6 sixes at Sharjah to go unbeaten, helping the team post 228-4.

Sunil Narine didn’t has a good start as usual as he was bowled by a superb length ball by Anrich Nortje. Then Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill combined together to help KKR maintain good run rate before Legendary Amit Mishra removed Gill. The experienced leg spinner bowled brilliantly to give just 16 runs in his two overs.

When Andre Russell came to bat at no.4 in the 9th over, Shreyas Iyer brought Rabada to bowl. KKR needed 135-140 odd runs at that time. Dre-Russ hit Rabada for a four and a six before Rabada had the last laugh as he sent him pavilion by a good length that saw Russell getting caught at third man.

Brilliant bowling by Stonis and Harshal Patel in the middle overs didn’t allow KKR batsmen to score big runs as a result Nitish Rana and Dinesh Karthik both lost their wicket to Harshal Patel in the same over.

KKR were 6 down in quick succession at the score of 122. They needed another 107 runs in 39 balls. Eoin Morgan and Rahul Tripathi were in the crease. One bad over of Stoinis that came in the 17th oversaw Rahul Tripathi smashing him for 24 runs.

In the next over Morgan smashed Rabada for 3 sixes to remind the fans once again that anything is possible at Sharjah after Tewatia’s fiasco. 31 runs needed off 12 balls when Iyer who had a horrific look at his face gave the ball to Nortje who changed the course of the game to make sure the game remains in Delhi’s hand as took the important wicket of Morgan to leave 26 runs in the final over for Stoinis to defend.

Tripathi who had a “Rahul” to his surname couldn’t repeat what Rahul Tewatia did to Cottrell as was bowled by a full delivery off Stoinis to close the game for Delhi as they beat KKR by 18 runs.

Iyer was named the man of the match for his brilliant 88 runs of 38 balls.

Match 15, Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Rajasthan Royals

Earlier today in the first match of the day Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal won the game for RCB with their brilliant 74 and 62 runs respectively.

RR posted 154-6 which RCB chased down comfortably. Yuzvendra Chahal was named the man of the match for his excellent spell of 3-16.

With today’s result Delhi Capitals once again reached to the top of the table with 6 points in 4 games and RCB is at 2nd position with same number of points in as many games.
