CSK Vs SRH
MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings have defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 20 runs. This was a critical win for CSK as the team was struggling a lot. But what stood out in this game is a complete team effort from each member. Chennai Super Kings is now standing at number 6 position in the points table with 6 points. This win against SRH will keep the hopes of the fans alive and boost the confidence of the players.
On the contrary, SRH loss have raised many question. The loss form of David Warner, Manish Pandey are big concerns for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Sending Kane Williamson at number 4 is something the management and the captain needs to look at. A man like Kane Williamson can anchor and build the innings while players at the other end can fire.
CSK played a huge gamble by sending Sam Curran as the opener and it completely paid off. His quick 31 runs knock helped the team to get the momentum. However his opening partner Faf Du Plesis got out on a golden duck. The first 2 over spell by Sandeep Sharma set the tone right, his two important breakthroughs helped SRH to get on top of CSK.
But the partnership between Rayudu and Watson set the stage for Chennai Super Kings. The 81 run partnership in 64 balls between both the batsman helped CSK to reach a strong position. And then came the classic finish of Ravindra Jadega and Captain MS Dhoni. While Ravindra Jadega’s knock 25 runs in 10 balls was the actual difference between CSK and SRH, MS Dhoni also played a cameo and helped the team to reach a defendable total.
The two wickets (Ambati Rayudu and Shane Watson) in the same over by T. Natarajan helped to contain the flow of runs, but it was good to see Chennai’s intent which was clearly missing in the previous games.
When SRH came back to bat, the total seemed easily chasable, but Chennai’s bowlers had other plans. The soft dismissal of Captain David Warner in Sam Curran’s over followed by Manish Pandey’s run out hampered the team a lot.
The plan of CSK’s bowler was clearly visible, it was to contain the runs, put pressure on the batsman and let them make mistake. Using Jadega before the leg spinners was a part of Dhoni’s brilliance. The chance of getting wickets are more when the batsman attack leg spinners. However Johny Bairstow succumbed to the scoreboard pressure and gave his wicket to Ravindra Jadega.
Kane Williamson was lone warrior who was fighting till the end. His knock of 57 runs helped the team to atleast reach close to the total. The leg spinners did their job perfectly wickets started falling from the other end. The likes of Karan Sharma, Shardul Thakur and DJ helped CSK to get important breakthroughs and break the partnerships.
With run rate soaring high, finally Kane Williamson had to take the risk and in that process lost his wicket to Karan Sharma. At the end Rashid Khan, Shahbaz Nadeem fought back but the game was already over. In the last over when 22 runs were needed, Dwayne Bravo showcased his epitome class by giving only 1 run and picking up a wicket.
This is an important win for Chennai. MS Dhoni’s CSK will now face Delhi Capitals in Sharjah on 17th October. To qualify for the playoffs CSK atleast need to win 5 of the remaining 6 matches.
