India’s Covid-19 Mortality Rate stands 3.3%: Health Ministry

In a press briefing today, Joint Secretary of Health Ministry Lav Agarwal said, Mortality rate in India due to Covid-19 is 3.3%.

He also provides an age wise analysis of Mortality rate, 14.4% death has been reported in age group of 0-45 years. Between 45-60 years it is 10.3%, between 60-75 years it is 33.1% & for 75 years and above it is 42.2%.

USA has a mortality rate around 5.2%, Spain has 10.4% while Italy has 13.1%, France reported 12.6% and UK has huge 13.4% rate. Germany has restricted their mortality rate to 3% only.

Mortality rate in India is pretty low, when we compare it with developed countries in the world like USA, UK, Spain and Italy. The health facilities standards available in these countries are very much advance, but still India managed to keep its mortality rate low.

Positive trend noted in 47 district of 23 states. No positive case reported in last 28 days in Mahe of Puducherry & Kodagu of Karnataka. In 45 other districts, no new positive case reported in last 14 days: Lav Aggarwal, Health Ministry.

It is to noted that from 20 April, States which will not let hotspots increase, they could be allowed to let some important activities resume, but with certain conditions.

Lav Agarwal futher said, “Out of total 14378 cases, 4291 (29.8%) cases are related to Nizamuddin Markaz cluster from single source and affected 23 States & UTs.

Tamil Nadu: 84%
Telangana: 79%
Delhi: 63%
AP: 61%
UP: 59%

Arunachal Pradesh has only 1 Covid-19 case from Markaz, Assam has 32 out of 35 cases from Markaz and Andaman has 10 out of 12 cases from Markaz.
