CDS Bipin Rawat says, “Time has now come to be self-reliant”

CDS Bipin RawatCDS Bipin Rawat said in interview to ANI that, “COVID19 has taught us a lesson that the time has now come to be self-reliant…In India”.

This statement by CDS (Chief of Defense Staff) came after, India force to source RT-PCR test kits, Rapid Antibody Tests, PPE kits from countries like China, South Korea and Singapore. India already has the technology to manufacture these in home but we are lacking when it comes to manufacture these items in a very large scale within a short span.

GOI has placed orders for 37 lakh rapid antibody testing kits from companies in China, South Korea and Singapore. Only about 7 lakh kits have reached India till now.

We in the defence services have been importing our weapons, equipment & ammunition from abroad. But I think, if we can give this challenge to the industry, to our own research & development organisation, I think we can start manufacturing our own ammunitions etc in the country: CDS Bipin Rawat.

He added, Whatever budget has been given to us, we must spend it pragmatically avoiding any wasteful expenditure. We don’t see any major drop in our operational preparedness as far as the three services are concerned.

COVID-19 has affected the three services in a very limited number. I would say that this is the discipline and patience which has helped us in preventing the spread of the menace: CDS Bipin Rawat

“As armed forces, we understand our responsibility in the fight against COVID-19. We’ve to make sure that we remain safe because if our soldiers, sailors & airmen get affected by this virus, how’re we going to support our people”.

CDS also praised Scientist and other medical research teams who have come up with innovative ideas to produce medical equipment in the country which we were so far importing to help us tide over COVID19.

CDS also said, we cannot become a regional power by getting dependent on other instead we will have help other. It becomes important to Make in India and we need to ensure that whatever defense equipment we are importing, gradually we are getting it through Make in India.

He also informed that all personal of Armed forces have installed the Aarogya Setu application in the phone which will help to restrict spread of COVID-19.
