This is not the first time when users shown their anger towards Twitter. Twitter is always known for showing dual standards. When it comes to Indians, platforms like Twitter, YouTube shows some discrimination. Few weeks back, a known Indian YouTuber Carryminati had published a video in YouTube and video was setting new records. But YouTube took down the video in reference to user’s mass report. Similarly Twitter had taken unfair step to suspend the account of most loved Indian organization. And to show outrage, Indian users are trending #BoycottTwitter on Twitter.
Why #BoycottTwitter is trending on Twitter ?
Amul had tweeted “#Amul Topical: About the boycott of Chinese products…” on June 3rd with a pic. Posted pic had the most loved the Amul girl with a text “Exit the Dragon ?” and “Amul Made in India”.
After this tweet, Twitter had suspended the account of Amul. But after a certain time Amul had got the access of their Twitter handle. Amul has raised the question to Twitter for suspending their account but there were no reply.
When WION talked about this issue to Twitter’s spokerperson they replied “The account was caught in our spam filter. Safety and security of the accounts is a key priority for us and sometimes to ensure an account has not been compromised we require the account owner to complete a simple reCAPTCHA process also termed as an ‘anti-spam’ challenge.”
Following with “These challenges are simple for authentic account owners to solve, but difficult (or costly) for spammy or malicious account owners to complete. Once the account clears this security step, as was the case with @Amul_Coop, the account regains full access. To protect the accounts we routinely require them to clear this security key for login verification.”.
Amul is an Indian co-operative organisation and Indians are known for giving befitting reply. So there was a response from Amul to WION when asked about this issue, “Amul Butter girl spare none, favour none and fears none. She tells the mood of nation”.
Does Twitter give the appropriate reply ?
Not at all, Amul is a large organization and basically large organisations are not suspended but Twitter did. And for this, users listed the #BoycottTwitter on trending section of Twitter itself.
Reply from Twitter was tolerable for common user’s account as because sometimes user keeps the username similar to the famous account’s username. And to prevent the Twitter from spams and fake accounts, Twitter suspend the account. But it can be recovered by entering the correct captcha.
