Bollywood celebrities faces backlash for posting “Black Lives Matter” while endorsing fairness brands

Bollywood celebrities faces huge backlash for standing with the blacks and appealing people to stand against injustice while endorsing fairness brands.

Fairness has been taken as a symbol of superiority, richness in India for years. One of the key reasons is that we have been taught from our childhood being fair makes you more good looking and attractive, Being fair is a status symbol. Media has played a huge role in feeding our mind with these notions. Being fair can get you a good job, good boy or a girl, you can make a good name for yourself by just being fair.

The death of George Floyd saw a big turnaround, people are coming out on streets and protesting against the government and police officials for George Floyd. People are raising slogans “Black Lives Matter”. Now Bollywood Celebrities like Tamannah Bhatia, Disha Patani, Sonam Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone have took their Social Media to raise voice against this racism and injustice towards Blacks.

 

 

The Bollywood Celebrities faced huge backlash from the people for promoting fairness product on one side and preaching about equality on the other side. Big Bollywood celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra are idol in this country, people look upto them, people follow them and when they speak about why it’s important to be fair in the advertisements, there is sense of insecurity among people for who they are and what they will be in future.

People are calling out Bollywood Celebrities to either stop associating themselves with the fairness brands or Stop preaching about equality. Actors like Abhay Deol have earlier raised concerns on why it’s important for big celebreties to stop endorsing fairness brand.
There is no iota of doubt during these tough times actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Sonu Sood, Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan have come forward to help their country in fighting these deadly virus, but when the world and kids see them it’s important for them to impart the knowledge “being fair is not everything”.

What message we impart today will make sure how are society is in future. Now the biggest question is after all this will the Bollywood celebrities stop endorsing fairness brands and walk on the path which they truly believe is right.
