Babar Azam during a recent interview said that he will be honoured if people compare him with Pakistani greats like Javed Miandad, Inzamam-Ul-Haq & Mohammad Yosuf rather than Virat Kohli.
The growing comparisons of Babar Azam with India’s Run Machine Virat Kohli now seems to be a concern for the Pakistani Captain. Since his debut Babar Azam has been labelled as next Virat Kohli. However the Pakistani Captain doesn’t seem to be happy with the comparisons.
“If you want to compare me with someone, I would like to be compared to Pakistan’s players, instead of Virat Kohli. We have had legends like Javed Miandad, Younis Khan, Inzamam-ul-Haq. If you compare me to these legends, I will like it more and feel proud of my accomplishments,” Azam told reporters in a teleconference.
However at many instances Babar Azam has expressed his love and admiration for the Indian Captain. Babar, who recently was declared as the captain Pakistan Cricket team in limited seems to shoo off this extra added pressure.
Babar Azam is considered as the upcoming superstar of World Cricket and is believed to be in the league of Greats of the game. Babar made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in 2015 and averages over 50 in both ODI as well as T20. However in Test the cricketer till now has not been able to make his mark the way it is expected from him.
On the other side Virat has already become a great of the game. Scoring more than 70 international centuries the Run Machine is considered as a benchmark for all the cricketers across the world. Virat Kohli is the only player to average 50 across all three formats.
Under Babar Azam’s leadership Pakistan will play the T20 World Cup. That will be the testing time for the Pakistani Captain, how he manages the pressure and leads by example, the way Virat Kohli does.
