Asia Cup 2020 which was scheduled to take place on September this year has been postponed in view of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Asia Cup 2020 becomes the latest tournament to get postponed because of surge in coronavirus cases across the globe. The ACC has decided to transfer the hosting rights to Sri Lanka, which was earlier with Pakistan.
The ACC mentioned on release, “From onset the ACC was keen on organising the tournament as per the original schedule. However, travel restrictions, country-specific quarantine requirements… have posed substantial challenges to the holding of the Asia Cup”.
The ACC further added, “Accordingly, the Board, after careful consideration of all the above factors, has determined that the Asia Cup 2020 be postponed.”
Sri Lanka will be hosting the tournament in 2021, while Pakistan will host the 2022 Edition. Earlier BCCI president Sourav Ganguly during an interview said, “The Asia Cup is cancelled”. This statement rose a new controversy in Pakistan. Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ehsan Mani mentioned, “The decision regarding Asia Cup 2020 should be announced by ACC, not the BCCI President”.
