Kolkata: Thursday turned out to be a bonanza for the ausies, as they collected big in the IPL auction. Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins became the big fish as Kolkata Knight Riders purchased him for 15.50 crore and welcomed him in the Knights. With this Pat Cummins became the highest faring overseas player in the history of ipl and second highest faring ipl player, after Yuvraj Singh who was bought by Delhi Daredevils then now Delhi Capitals.
The next big thing in Ipl auction became Australian hard hitting batsman Glenn Maxwell. He is bought by KXIP for a whopping amount of 10.75 Crore. The international break of Glenn Maxwell due to his mental fatigueness did not affect the auction table.
The South African all rounder Chris Morris also fetched big in the auction table. RCB desperately needed a finisher and a death bowler, so RCB went all out for Chris. RCB picked Chris Morris for a whopping amount of 10.75 Crore.
The biggest surprise in this year IPL was Sheldon Cottrell being sold for 8.5 Crore. The KXIP bought the young fast bowler who impressed everyone with his pace and deadly bouncers. This will be Cottrell’s first IPL and he is pretty excited for it. It would be interesting to see what newness and impact he creates in the game.
Nathan Coulter Nile will be seen this year playing for Mumbai Indians. MI bought the Australian bowler for 8.5 Crore. Although Mumbai has world class bowlers still they went for Coulter Nile as a back up fast bowler seeing Lasith Malinga’s age and fitness.
Among the Indian Capped players Piyush Chawla went big in the auction table for a whopping amount of 6.2 crore. Piyush Chawla is bought by CSK seeing the spinner friendly wickets at Chepauk.
Young Guns were fetched big in the auction table.
Yashvi Jaiswal struggle story is now well known in Indian Cricket. The one who used to sell panipuri will now be a millionaire as Rajasthan Royal went after Yashvi Jaiswal and bought him for 2.40 crore.
Jamshedpur’s young talent Virat Singh made his mark in the IPL auction table as he was bid by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 1.9 Crore.The 22-year-old left-hand batsman came into light after he scored 343 runs in ten innings at an average of 57.16 and a strike rate of 142.32 at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last month.
Other young cricketers like Varun Chakravarthy, Priyam Garg also made their mark in the auction table.
