21 Years of Nawazuddin Siddiqui in films, journey from Sarfarosh to Sacred Games

The man who possess the power of stealing the show from the main lead, completed his 21 years in movies.Nawazuddin siddiqui

Nawazuddin Siddiqui made his first film appearance in Sarfarosh(1999) as a side actor. The film stars Aamir khan, Naseeruddin Shah and Sonali Bendre in lead. Who knew that after 21 years, the man will become one of the best actor of India and even the world will recognise his work.

The man has transitioned from playing a side role to a supporting role to playing a lead role in a big scale Bollywood movie. His journey was not that easy, in the early days he has to prove himself every time when he get a chance. In most actors filmography, there’s always one such film that makes them an overnight superstar. That breakthrough in Nawaz’s life comes with Gangs of Wasseypur in which he played the role of Faizal Khan.

You know, when an actor truly gets his self identity! When his dialogues were used by people in their day to day life. Faizal Khan’s dialogue “Baap ka, Dada ka, Bhai ka sabka badla lega tera faizal” was that, that made an self identity for Nawaz. This dialogue is now used in several “memes” and people love it.

But in India, actors who only choose to do art films don’t make it to the top. Nawaz did the same in his initial years. As the years passed by, he understood that to survive in this jungle, he needs to be part of some commercial movies also. Then his second innings in Bollywood started. His first big budget commercial movie comes in the form of “Kick“. A 2014 film which stars Salman Khan in the lead role and Nawaz was playing the antagonist in it. The film did exceptionally well and earned 225 Cr ($29.6M) in the domestic box office. It was one of the highest grossers of that year.

Nawaz then keeps on featuring in both kind of movies. Few years ago in a talk show, Nawaz gave a bold statement that “I do art films to satisfy my heart and do commercial films to fill my stomach” (translated in English). His filmography has a variety of films ranging from high intense crime thrillers to soft pitched romantic films. When he made his digital debut with Netflix original web show “Sacred Games” internet exploded. That show is still one of the best web show made in India.
